Frequently Asked Questions

A doula is a non medical, trained birth professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, spiritual, and informational support & resources to birth-givers and their families throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

A doula is a companion and guide through the journey of birth preparation and labor, from helping families gather important information to understand options and have confidence in decision making, to tried and true comfort measures, presence, encouragement & advocacy.

A doula’s role originates from the ancestral model of birth support and wisdom traditionally provided by family members and community healers across the world. Here in the West, this ancestral knowledge has diminished largely due to the medical model of birth. Doulas are providing care in support of reclaiming birth and bodily sovereignty.

Studies show that having a doula present at Births results in improved birth outcomes, improved newborn health, and improved satisfaction ratings including:

39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean*
15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth*
10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief*
31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience*

Your partner will always hold the most vital role of care for you through the birth journey. My role is to amplify the capacity and sustainability of your partner to support you and be someone trusted to lean on in times of overwhelm. This looks like hearing from the partner what roles they are confident stepping into, and what areas they want to lean on me for, tagging-in so that partner can eat/drink and rest, reassuring the partner, knowing when to step back for the couple to have privacy & intimacy, reminders of coping, comfort & advocacy tools practiced in prenatal meetings. Partners need support in this big journey too!

I am happy to be a Medi-Cal doula services provider and am taking Medi Cal clients with EDDs of February 2025 and beyond. If you have fee-for-service Medi-Cal or are on a managed care plan, you can access doula services through Medi-Cal. There is more information about this on the California Department of Health Care Services website.

At this time I do not take any other insurance. I do offer sliding scale so that families of varying income can access my care. For sliding scale, The San Francisco Area Median Income (AMI) Chart will help us determine the price tier that your family falls into. Please find the total or combined income as it relates to the current number in your household to determine the % of AMI for your family. Please reach out if you are experiencing financial strain and we can discuss options.
